Seating chart rental is what stops a hundred guests from wandering the room looking for their name. It is a piece of decor doing a logistics job, and when it fails, dinner starts twenty minutes late.

Alphabetical, not by table
This is the mistake that costs you time. Guests know their own name; they do not know their table number. A chart organised by table forces every guest to scan every column. Alphabetical by surname, with the table number beside it, empties the entrance in a fraction of the time.
Place it wide, not deep. A tall narrow chart makes a queue; a wide one lets six people read at once. And light it — after sunset an unlit chart is the single most common reason dinner runs late.
Deadlines
Final names and tables have to be locked before production. Late changes are normal at weddings, so we agree a cutoff and handle last-minute moves with place cards at the table rather than reprinting the chart.
Pairing
Matches the welcome sign so the lettering is consistent from the door to the table.
